4 investment trends top the bill at TMT Finance Asia 2017

Data centre investment activity, the expansion of internet-based TV, digital company floatations, and telecom tower M&A and consolidation, are among the main themes predicted in the Asia telecom, media and technology sector for 2017, and will be the standout topics discussed at TMT Finance Asia 2017, according to organiser TMT Finance. The conference will be held at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore on February 16, http://www.tmtfinance.com/asia/

According to senior industry contacts, tower consolidation is expected to continue, especially in India, Myanmar and Indonesia. The leading towerco companies are all speaking at the conference, including Suresh Sidhu, CEO of edotco Group; Amit Sharma, EVP and president, Asia, American Tower Corp; Steve Weiss, CFO, Protelindo; Phillipe Luxcey, managing director, Apollo Towers Myanmar; and Mohamad Iwan, CEO, KIN Towers.

Internet-based TV and video is also tipped as one of the hottest trends globally and especially in Asia, with key companies such as HOOQ and iflix likely to be expanding into new markets, and heavyweights including Mediacorp, Times Internet and Baofeng expected to continue expanding. All will feature on various panels and roundtables throughout the day, represented by C-level executives.

Elsewhere, following the burst of fast growing digital companies in Southeast Asia, major internet companies such as Grab, Go-Jek, Bukalapak and Garena all have IPOs plan on their radar, and consolidation in the e-commerce sector is tipped to take place. Tackling this topic in particular is the Digital Asia Panel, and Roundtable breakout sessions on eCommerce Asia and Investing in Digital Innovation. Speakers on these sessions include: Ming Maa, president of Grab; Muhamad Fajrin Rasyid, CSFO, Bukalapak; Hamish Stone, CEO, iCar; Asia, Dayu Dara Permata, VP, Go-Jek; Rakesh Malani, CFO, Carousell; and Michael Cluzel, CEO, eatigo.

Substantial investments in Asia’s data centre sector has also been a core transaction driver in 2016 – particularly in Southeast Asia and Australia. Speakers including Joey Tan, head of global initiatives and strategic alliances, Alibaba Cloud; Ricky Chau, vice president, Level 3 Communications; and Robin Khuda, CEO of AirTrunk will debate the sector on the Enterprise Cloud and Datacentres Panel and highlight the latest strategies and opportunities in enterprise cloud and hosting services.

TMT Finance Asia 2017, now in its eighth year, will gather 200 delegates and 70 speakers from the most active telecom, media and technology companies, investors and advisers in Asia.
