Speaker Profile

Ryan is a seasoned professional with more than 13 years of experience spanning different leadership and managerial roles across various functions and sectors.

Currently, Ryan heads the Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Planning at StarHub Limited, Singapore’s second largest quad-play integrated info-communications company that provides connectivity, communications, and entertainment services for consumer and corporate markets in Singapore across mobile, broadband and pay-television business lines. At StarHub, he has successfully closed 4 M&A deals, most recently of which was the formation of Ensign Infosecurity, a pure-play cybersecurity company with Quann World. In the area of Corporate Planning, he has led several strategic reviews of the company’s business lines. Ryan has also re-designed the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework to be more strategic in looking at both opportunity and risk.

Ryan previously was at SMRT Corporation, Singapore’s leading multi-modal public transport operator in Singapore that offers train, bus and taxi services, where he was the Head of Strategy & Risk Management, and concurrently a Director of Commercial Business Development. As Head of Group Strategy, he was responsible for driving the company's strategic agenda, as well as key corporate development and growth-related initiatives. As Head of Enterprise Risk Management, he was responsible for reshaping the company’s ERM framework and was named Corporate Risk Manager of the Year at the 19th Asia Insurance Industry Awards 2015.

Prior to SMRT Corporation, Ryan was a management consultant with Bain & Company. Additionally, as part of a mandatory service stint following the award of the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship, Ryan also held a variety of military command and staff positions, including a deployment in Afghanistan as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) as a Head of Intelligence (Plans). He worked closely with both NATO forces and the United States 10th Mountain Division during his deployment in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

In a National Service capacity, he currently serves as the Commanding Officer of an Armour Battalion, and was named a Distinguished Graduate of Singapore’s National Service Command & Staff College.

Since 2017, Ryan has served as a Board Member (Audit Committee) of Dover Park Hospice, Singapore.

Ryan possesses a M.A. in Quantitative Methods in Social Sciences from Columbia University, and graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Economics and Government (High Honours).
