Zain due diligence challenges
Bharti has entered into exclusive talks to buy Zain’s Africa assets, but the price of US$10.7bn, and the deal itself, is far from a certainty, according to sources. For instance, the regulators of some of the African assets could obstruct a transfer of assets. Page 2

Banks pitch Bharti for debt mandates
Bankers are busy pitching Bharti, for what is expected to be a US$7-8bn debt package. “A process is in place but the size and structure is not known, as the purchase price is adjustable,” said one banker. The 7 banks mandated for the MTN deal in Q3 2009 are tipped as favourites.
